Painted on the bow of the ship:
"N. B. S. Co." (Nantasket Beach Steamship Company)
"Nantasket Beach Line"
"Rose Standish"

I think this image might have been taken when the Cape Cod Canal was officially opened.

The decks are filled with passengers, including people sitting in the lifeboats!
On the hill behind the ship, I can see crowds of people sitting and standing, and there are a lot of cars parked behind them, and along a railing to the right, visible to the right of the smokestack.

First, here is a photograph of an original painting of the "Original" Rose Standish. The painting was made by George Henry Boughton in 1891.

Nothing of note is known about Rose, wife of Myles Standish, beyond the fact she came on the Mayflower with her husband and died on January 29, 1620 at Plymouth during the first winter.

Here is another image of the Rose Standish steaming through the Cape Cod Canal.
The postcard reads, "Opening the Cape Cod Canal"
"The Rose Standish in the Canal with Pres. August Belmont, (President of the Cape Cod Canal Company) and 1500 guests, July 29, 1914."
In the lower-left corner is printed, "No. 110 - Publ. by Small's - Buzzards Bay, Mass."

Here is a picture of the crew of the Rose Standish. I'm guessing that's the Captain on the left, with the stripes on his sleeves, and the First Mate on the right.
Clicking on the picture will lead you to a very interesting image, so enjoy.
